Happy Thaipusam 2013

The largest and most spectacular celebration of the Hindu festival of Thaipusam outside India, takes place every year in and around Kuala Lumpur. Over three days, as many as a million people take part on the festivities.

The festival celebrates the victory of Lord Murugan (also known as Subramaniam) over a powerful demon. His triumph was made possible by the gift a sacred lance or spear, known as a vel, from his mother, Mariamman (also known as Parvati). In essence, Thaipusam celebrates the victory of good over evil.
